General Manager named for Idaho Falls Power

April 16, 2026

Chris Fredericksen has been appointed as the new General Manager of Idaho Falls Power and Idaho Falls Fiber, pending City Council confirmation.

In his role, Fredericksen will oversee the high-level operations, strategic direction and continued delivery of reliable, affordable electric service to the community.

“Director Fredericksen has the vision, knowledge and experience to ensure IF Power continues its tradition as a cutting-edge utility, while focusing on workplace safety and excellent customer service,” said Mayor Lisa Burtenshaw.

The City of Idaho Falls extends its sincere appreciation to Stephen Boorman, who has served as the Interim General Manager for almost a year. “Stephen has done an incredible job as the interim general manager,” said Mayor Burtenshaw. “His knowledge of the public power system and city administration have been crucial during this transition.”

Fredericksen brings extensive experience in public service and infrastructure development. An east Idaho native, Fredericksen has been in Public Works for a quarter of a century, where he has overseen major capital improvement projects, strengthened operational efficiency, and fostered a strong, service-oriented team culture.

A graduate of Idaho State University and a licensed professional engineer, he has served as the City’s Public Works Director for 13 years.  Before joining the City of Idaho Falls, he worked for the Idaho Transportation Department.

Mayor Burtenshaw noted Fredericksen’s proven leadership on large, complex projects, his commitment to staff development and his dedication to excellence make him the right fit for the role.  “His experience and leadership style will complement the existing team at Idaho Falls Power and position the utility for continued growth and success,” she said.

“I am looking forward to this new role and continuing the innovation and work ethic that exists at our city power company. Idaho Falls Power is the standard for what every city electric utility should look like, and it will remain a power player in the West,” said Fredericksen. “Our customers can continue to expect low rates, reliable power and great customer service.”

Director Fredericksen’s appointment will be presented to the Idaho Falls City Council for consideration at the City Council meeting scheduled for April 23 at 6:30 p.m.
