Idaho Falls Power and Idaho Falls Fiber encourage community awareness regarding misleading sales tactics

January 23, 2026

Idaho Falls Power and Idaho Falls Fiber are encouraging community members to remain vigilant after becoming aware of recent instances of misleading information being shared regarding local utility and fiber services.

Over the past week, Idaho Falls Power has received reports of door-to-door salespeople claiming that Idaho Falls Power is raising rates or that customers must “lock in” pricing through alternative services, such as solar. In some cases, misleading materials and inaccurate representations have been used with Idaho Falls Power logos.

Idaho Falls Power continues to offer some of the lowest electricity rates in the nation and has not implemented rate increases related to these claims. When rate changes do occur, the utility communicates directly with customers through official channels, including utility bills, mailed notices, the city website, and city-managed communication platforms.

Idaho Falls Fiber has also received reports of inaccurate claims related to fiber and internet services. Idaho Falls Fiber provides the city-owned fiber infrastructure, delivering dedicated, high-speed connections of up to one gigabit download and upload. While Idaho Falls Fiber does not sell internet service directly, it partners with multiple independent internet service providers, allowing residents to choose the provider and pricing that best fits their needs. Customers who subscribe to Idaho Falls Fiber services will see a $25 monthly infrastructure fee on their utility bill, which is removed if fiber service is discontinued.

Current electric rates and official service information are available on the Idaho Falls Power website, and fiber service details and pricing information can be found on the Idaho Falls Fiber website.

Residents are reminded that any door-to-door sales activity within the city must be permitted and salespeople should be able to present a valid city permit and photo identification upon request. Customers should never feel pressured to provide personal or account information.

“We encourage customers to take a moment to pause and verify information before taking action,” said Stephen Boorman, Idaho Falls Power Interim General Manager. “If something doesn’t sound right, we strongly recommend contacting our office directly so we can provide accurate information about rates, billing, or services.”

As city-owned utilities, Idaho Falls Power and Idaho Falls Fiber operate with a public-service mission focused on transparency, reliable infrastructure, fair rates, and long-term value for the community. Residents with questions about their electric or fiber services are encouraged to contact Idaho Falls Power at (208) 612-8140 or Idaho Falls Fiber at (208) 612-8725, for accurate information.
